The Silhouette

we glide beside the sun
across gravel
over asphalt
under the signs and trees

the silhouette, my companion
goes before me
infinitely graceful
turns backwards
sliding forward, snaking side to side
laughing back towards me
"Can you catch up?"
smile breaking through the shadow


and the sun was to his back
and the truck was to his side
and the smile fell from his face
as the silhouette died
